KONNAKOL LAB
SKYROCKET Your Rhythmic Ability!
RESERVE YOUR SPOT NOW
Saturday’s on 3/2, 3/9, 3/16
KONNAKOL is the art of performing percussion syllables vocally in South Indian Carnatic music. It also just sounds really, really cool!
As drummers we tend to equate percussion with the sound of the drums and the motion of the sticks. BUT, all rhythm starts in the body. If we can’t feel, speak, or clap rhythms, then how are we to express them on the drum set?
KONNAKOL LAB is a 3-part rhythmic workshop in collaboration with Boston Drum Lessons and Yogev Gabay.
In three 75-minute classes you will:
Learn the fundamentals and foundations of KONNAKOL
Learn a spoken vocabulary to express your rhythmic ideas (aka drum speak)
Make rhythms and create with a group of passionate peers
Who is this workshop for?
The musician or drummer who is curious about world music and other percussion cultures.
The hobbyist who wants to play drums in a group and meet more of the Boston Drum Lessons community.
Anyone who is looking to better improve and refine their control and understanding of rhythm.
The pianist, string player, or multi instrumentalist looking to apply new rhythmic ideas to their instrument. KONNAKOL is a study of rhythm and an art form that extends to any and all instruments.
See what Yogev has to say about it below!
“I’ve been deep into this topic for years now and I’ve teamed up with the Boston Drum Lessons folks to host a mini Konnakol crash course, so you, can start making funny noises as well.
We’ll go through the basic clapping patterns, the syllables and how to use them, and by the end of this mini course you’ll be able to start grasping intricate rhythmic structures with a bit more ease, recite basic Konnakol compositions and even get into how to apply them on your instrument.
All you need for this course is hands, and a brain.
Which I know, we drummers lack a bit of the latter, but I trust you.
Rhythm and the use of time is easily the most important aspect in music, definitely for drummers, and Konnakol can skyrocket your rhythmic abilities and honestly, it’s just pure fun.
So join us, March 2, 9 and 16, do the thing on the website (members get 20% off, because they’re cool like that) and let’s get some TaDiKiNaTum going. ”
